transaltions missing when running from android studio

Hi,
when running (unmodified) xdrip+ from Android Studio (2022.3.1 Patch 3) in an emulator or deploying it from Android Studio to a phone translations are not working. I cannot see any other language then english.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Are you saying you know how to use other languages when you install the official release, but, when you compile it yourself, it doesn't work? Or, do you not know how to use translations at all?

When using the official release it picks up the correct language automatically.

When compiling myself this does not work. Even if I select and force the selected language it is still in English.

If you don't force, it will use device's local language.

When I install a version I compile myself on a physical device, I can change the language.
But, for the first time ever, I just tried to do it in the emulator and as you say, it does stay English even though I have changed and forced the language.
I don't know right now why this happens.

This is weird!

I clicked on this arrow in Android studio to compile and bring up automatically in the emulator as I had done before when translations failed.

I then uninstalled xDrip in the emulator. Then, accessed Google Drive to get a compiled version that I had compiled with Android Studio for testing. I installed it and translations work in the emulator now.

For some reason, compiling and bringing it up in the emulator does not work.

I just opened it in Android Studio and hit the play button. I don't think I did anything specific 🤔

I meant how exactly did you compile the version that you installed on a real phone that did not work?

Let me try that again - last time I tried it with the 'wrong' android studio - a newer version...

Nope, same result. I connected my phone via USB, allowed USB-debugging, phone shows up on android studio, I hit play, xdrip starts... But only english language is working.

I just noticed the APK file that I am building is about 10MB while the one available for download is about 15MB. So there is something different...

That's why I asked how exactly you compile.

After I load a fork, I use the bottom right corner to check it out.

Then, I click this and wait a few minutes for it to finish syncing:

When I want to compile, I click here:

And I select APK and Next.

Now, every time for a new file, I have to choose my key file on the form that comes up.

Then, I enter my password and click Next.

Then, I select prodRelease and hit Create.

But it looks like I messed up something else now.
Installing my own compiled APK as well as any downloaded APK fails after a while with an unspecific error messages (App was not installed)... This did work before! 🤔
I get a warning "app was developed for an older android version" for all APKs - dunno if that happened before?
(The phone is Android 10 btw...)

Guess I'm gonna play around some more...

The first point: yes that's what I did (install anyway)
The 2nd point: That sound like the error I am getting, but currently there is no xdrip installed on that phone. I doubled checked it, there is no xdrip there. I made a fresh download of the latest release, same error. :-(

And when you go to Android Settings and tap on "Apps", what do you see? Post a screenshot.

There is a long list of Apps. xdrip is not one of them. That would be 10 or so screenshots, but I guess that won't help :-/

I don't understand why official xDrip would not install if it did before.

Maybe deploying the app via usb had some permanent leftovers, that I can't get rid off. I tried disabling dev-options, rebooting, searched manually for xdrip files without any luck.

Deploying via USB is still working though (with the original problem of only working in english) but I give up for now.
I guess my child has to learn some english :-P

Okay, I did a horrible workaround ;-)
I added the strings-de.xml content into the strings.xml, removed most off the english keys (kept the the few untranslated keys) and - bam: German app. 🥳
