Pattern matching on hostname

I'm trying to create a proxy host that applies to any host matching *-beta.somewhere.com. I've tried *-beta.somewhere.com and that can't be saved. I've also tried ~^(.+)-beta\.somewhere\.com$ and that doesn't seem to apply to any requests. Is there a way to implement a partial wildcard in the host portion of the domain name?
