Incompatible version according to Time Machine

Describe the bug

I have setup a netatalk server on my ArchLinux computer, but when my friend tries to connect to it it says “The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported. Please contact your system administrator to resolve the problem.”

To Reproduce

• Start netatalk.service and avahi-daemon.service
• Try to connect to the new device which appeared in the Time Machine dialog on macOS.

Expected behavior

macOS should connect and do a backup on my computer.

Environment

• Server OS: ArchLinux latest
• Client OS: macOS Sequoia
• Netatalk Version: 4.2.4

Hi, here it is, lightly adapted from the example configuration from https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Netatalk#Configuration

[Global]
 mimic model = TimeCapsule6,106
 log level = default:maxdebug
 log file = /var/log/afpd.log
 hosts allow = 10.42.0.0/24

[Homes]
 basedir regex = /home

[TimeMachine]
 path = /home/timemachine
 valid users = linkmauve
 time machine = yes

[Shared Media]
 path = /home/linkmauve/
 valid users = linkmauve

Can you try using volume paths that are not under /home ? Netatalk doesn't deal well with nested volume structures. See f.e. #1893

I usually put the AFP volume dirs under f.e. /mnt or /srv

Tested again with a 4.3.0RC version of netatalk on Ubuntu 24.04, doing a Time Machine backup of my Sequoia 15.5 Mac.

I consider this more of a troubleshooting thread than a bug report, so moving it to Discussions.
