For an agenda I would like to follow up on some things we discussed last time. I wrote the meeting minutes on this wiki page https://github.com/NAU-CS/NAU-CS.github.io/wiki/24-Aug-2018 -- I also added the "best practices for organizing a departmental colloquium" that I got from a phone call with Jim Swift who organizes the long-running NAU maths/stats colloquium.

  1. Overleaf revolution https://nau.service-now.com/sp/?id=ticket&table=incident&sys_id=1de07873db78a344d19d71fa8c9619b2

  2. Possibility of hosting conferences at NAU -- I created a wiki page where you can post your ideas. https://github.com/NAU-CS/NAU-CS.github.io/wiki/conference-organization I suggested the useR conference which has a call for proposals to host in 2020 (but it is 1000 people so too big for Flagstaff, maybe we could do PHX or LV?), and Machine Learning Summer School which we could probably do in Flagstaff.

  • Talk to James. Paul? probably a lot more complicated to do a conf outside of Flag. Also having the conf elsewhere misses the point -- we want to alert people to our school.
  • Collaborate with Jay?
  • how to get people to flag? charter buses from phx and lv?
  • 240 people conf CIE organized by Eck. intl eng education.
  • photos of flag.
  • weekend trip before conf. sedona, lowell, grand canyon.
  1. Last time we talked about the possibility of doing tutorials that may be of interest to the CS group https://github.com/NAU-CS/NAU-CS.github.io/wiki/Tutorials

  2. I created a NAU CS organization on github and I invited all the faculty that I could find with a simple search -- if I missed you and you would like to join, please email me your github user name. https://github.com/NAU-CS -- Logo?

  • student competition prize, ipad, book, conference ticket, ask Paul.
  1. Discussion about github wiki / do we want a seminar web page like the math/stats colloquium? http://naumathstat.github.io/seminars/
