error adding : Playlist is too large

Disclaimer: I'm new to mpd/mpc.

When I run mpc add /, I get the error message in the title, error adding: Playlist is too large. Is there any workaround for this error?

A google search produced no hits for the error message. I'm running mpd (0.23.12-1) because that is what is in the Raspberry Pi repository.
