Shimmy is a tiny, zero-config Rust-based inference server compatible with the OpenAI API — designed for local-first AI with hot model swapping, auto-discovery, and LoRA support. Our goal is to make running AI models locally as easy as possible, without the complexity of Python stacks or cloud lock-in.

I can start this discussion off for exactly why I had this idea; I'm doing regular training for different models to try to find the exact model that works for my use case for AI and I found every time I would have to do an extensive amount of GGUF conversion just to be able to use each one.

I thought why not just a simple little Shim to make it work--and then I thought isn't that all you really need for development?

Anyhow that's what started this whole thing.

shimmy was born!
