Just a quick search for XANES, https://www.ebi.ac.uk/ols/search?q=XANES shows that it's covered in a few different ontologies (CHMO or FIX)

so you can imagine just looking up terms in those, reusing their synonyms, and potentially contributing back stuff that's missing

There is also some more detail in the ExPaNDS project and the related PaNET ontology (WebVOWL link) from Alejandra's talk that contain some more specific concepts for describing the output and instrument parameters for XANES and related techniques.
