How to appConfig.statusCheck as a simple ping check?

I turned on the status check via appConfig for all links. Now I have the problem that some indicators are red because the devices behind them have a self-signed certificate. The devices can be reached, but with a supposedly invalid certificate. I would like to have the check simply as a ping check, i.e. the device can be reached or not. How can I proceed here?
