How do you manage to get suggested applications for rooted users

I may be stupid in this question, but i'm curious how you get the api in order to get this, i heard somebody say about not needing ASI but i'm really curious

You need to set Lawnchair as system app to allow Lawnchair to use the predictions APIs (presumably from ASI), or set Lawnchair as Recents provider.

What's the difference of setting it as a system app then as a quickswitch provider? And what other OEMs have their different api's for predictions (other than ASI), i'm really curious
