Tocloft: remove chapter numbers

It's possible to add something before and after the chapter numbers, but it's not possible to remove the numbers. It would be nice if this were possible.

Just wondering, why would you want to do that in the first place? I'd like to see a proper use case.

I'm reverse engineering this 90s game manual https://archive.org/details/Seven_Kingdoms/mode/1up and they didn't include chapter numbers in the table of contents.

That is fair. What are yo using as the base class?

At the moment this request is probably not easy to add to tocloft, but if you're using memoir (which have functionality similar to tocloft build in) then it is trivial for chapters

in that case, perhaps a setup with titletocgets you where you want to be.

Looking at the Seven kingdoms file, it seems nothing is numbered in the ToC, so might be enough with

\renewcommand\numberline[1]{}
