We can possibly reuse the hlsl.js and add in specifics for syntax highlighting for SLang.

Any update on this? Since the tutorial is now using Slang for all it's shaders, not having syntax highlighting for that makes reading shader code in text a bit hard.

I poked around a bit and could not find anyone having already made an slang plugin for highlight.js. While it doesn't look conceptually difficult, it appears to be recasting parts of the grammar into a JS data structure passed into highlight.js, which means a lot of tedious work - see e.g. https://github.com/highlightjs/highlightjs-hlsl/blob/master/src/languages/hlsl.js for HLSL.

There is a VS plugin for slang that might? be helpful.

That plugin might be a good source. Luckily Slang's basic syntax is mostly HLSL. so we could duplicate the HLSL syntax highlighting I did some time ago and start adding relevant Slang keywords to it.

AFAIK, currently we're using the HLSL highlight.js module linked above - is there something different you did for HLSL as well?

It is a bit odd that the GLSL highlighter is built into the highlight.js distribution but the HLSL one is not. Would be nice to get all the shader languages built in at the end of this process. Is there any desire for a SPIR-V highlight module as well?

Nope, afaik I (or any of us) added that HLSL highligher js to the antora UI bundle. Adding Slang should be as easy as duplicating that HLSL js, adding in some of the more important keywords and call it a day.

SPIR-V could be of interest for other parts of the site. But I guess we would have to create that from scratch.

Turns out it's fairly easy to do so I did both. (just have to gather the list together for keywords, etc, and populate a list of those keywords, etc.) I'm sure I missed a lot and did it wrong, but hey, first pass.
