Crashes on opening

I have had DictTango installed on my Samsung A13 for a long time, but none of the versions since version 2.3.2.0 have worked. I've tried fresh installations, and cleaning up all the cache and data from the previous version but it still doesn't work. It is installed normally but when I run it the app starts and closes down in a second or two later and I get a message that the app has a bug and can't be run on my device. Here's a screenshot of the message I get:

A few more things to check:

1. Does the app crash when you’ve added dictionaries, or even without any?
2. Have you given the app permission to access the SD card?
3. Take a look at this folder: /sdcard/DictTango/Logs/ — if there are any log files in there, please upload them.

1. I have Android 14 on my phone (One UI version 6.1).

2. I couldn't install the app through updating the previous version so I completely cleaned up the data and cache from the previous one and install it afresh.

3. The installation goes normally when the previous version is purged and I confirm the all files access on the prompt screen and I also confirm permissions for notifications in the information panel for the app.

4. After the installation is completed I run the app and it crashes a couple of seconds after the screen is brought up. The screen looks normal, but the app closes down in two to three seconds after the start. I first get a message asking me to clear the cache and try running the app again.

5. It doesn't work and I get a message I posted in the OP, saying that the app has a bug and I'm to contact the developer.

6. No logs are created in /Internal Storage/DictTango folder on my phone. Also, cn.jimex.dict folder cannot be found in the Data folder on Android. I get this folder created with the previous version and I store my dictionaries in the Dictionaries folder within this folder. At this point I have no dictionary files on my phone, and I'll be waiting for your instructions how to proceed.

Where did you download version v2.3.2.0 from?

I installed it from the apk provided on the FreeMdict forum initially, and after updating to the newer version from the same place the dictionary couldn't be started anymore and I didn't have a working version of a dictionary anymore. Then I installed v.2.3.2.0 I found elsewhere on the internet and it works normally, only I can't update it just as same.

It appears that the v2.3.2.0 you downloaded from somewhere else has been repackaged with a different signature, which causes the app upgrade to fail. In this case, the one you downloaded becomes not safe anymore.

The latest version seems to be unable to access your SD card, even if you grant access.

4. Select "All Files Access": In the "Special app access" list, tap on "All files access." This might also be listed as "Files and media" on certain Android versions.

5. Review the App List: You will now see a list of applications. The apps that are granted permission to manage all files will have the toggle switch turned on or will be listed under an "Allowed" section.

Thank you for guiding me through the options, I appreciate it. I have found DictTango on the list and the access is allowed.

I just want to add that the upgrade initially failed with the version I downloaded from the Freemdict forum. I also wonder why I can't install the latest version even after uninstalling the version from another site and clearing up the cache and the data?

And what's even stranger, I have the DictTango window shown in the list of opened apps, but when I tap it, it closes down.

Since there's no folder created after the latest version installed, I suspect that your phone blocking latest version DictTango from accessing the SD card.

Can you kindly provide the v2.3.2.0 version here on the page, I'd much prefer to use your version than the one I downloaded from a random place on the internet, just to be on the safe side.

I've tried, and still the same. In the meantime, I tried restarting the phone once again, and check for the jimex.cn.dict folder, and it is there, but no files in any of the folders. I checked before and the folder wasn't there even after restarts, but now there it is , with all folders empty.

Did it prompt you to restart the DictTango app when you pressed the "Yes" button?

No, it didn't. The first couple of times I did have a message that the app would restart after confirming the access, but I don't get that message anymore, After pressing Yes, I'm redirected to the All files access screen where I push the slider on, and I have to start the dictionary over.

EDIT: I've now tried 2.3.3.0 version, it does give the restart notification on pressing the back button, but the rest is the same, it crashes all the same.

If that's the case, I think it will be difficult to find the cause of the app crash, unless you can access the system logs (but this usually requires rooting your phone to gain superuser access).
