For some reason my bitcoin node is not downloading the blockchain. It shows that is Synchronized 0% and does not change. It does have an active internet connection, of course.

I was also wondering if other containers from umbrel can be added. I am interested in mempool.space, ordinals and llamaGPT.

I'm trying to setup everything, unfortunately LND container keeps restarting, The error in the log is:

[ERR] LTND: Shutting down because error in main method: unable to initialize tor controller: unable to retrieve authentication cookie: open /tmp/.tor/control_auth_cookie: no such file or directory

Any idea?

I changed the location from /tmp to /data in Tor dockerfile and attached Tor volume to Lightning container - "../volumes/tor/data/.tor:/data/.tor". Seems it is working, not sure if there is a better way.

Interesting. Never ran into this myself. Perhaps adding the tor folder to the lightning container is a fix worth looking at. Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for your comment! Can you tell me more about your system? Is it virtual? RAM? Disk - HDD or SDD? etc.

No virtual machine. Ubuntu server 24.04 - i3-10110U - 8GB RAM - 2TB NVMe

Strange. Can you delete the folder and follow the instructions again? The new update should have fixed most of the permissions issues. Either way, try leaving the bitcoin node alone for a few hours and see how you go. It can take a while to synchronize, and even then, a while to start downloading blocks.

Lightning node would be great as well 🙏

I am working on the lightning node at the moment, but I am running into issues. I initially had an extras script that would load additional docker containers not related to the basic three. I'll consider working on them as well.

Stuff I am working on can be found under the test branch. Got a lot more functionality that I will be bringing in the next version. After that I will try focusing on the lightning nodes and the extras.

Just popping in to say THANK YOU for freeing me from Umbrel OS. I had success spinning out all of my containers except for Electrs and Lightning -- and not only have you done this, but you've maintained the Umbrel web interface.

Right now I have Bitcoin, Electrs, and Lightning Node all working properly. It took a little finicking as I already had these services running in Linux via Umbrel, and I didn't want to upgrade to the new Umbrel OS. So I directed the data folders to my existing data folders, and eventually got it working without having to spin up new nodes. 👍

One thing I've noticed on my end is that I need to have STACK_RUN_MEMPOOL_SPACE="True" or the lightning node will not spin up. That said, I could not get the mempool explorer working via the current script.

How curious! I myself run it on a clean pc with no issues. It's possible that some of the config files are causing problems. Try checking the mempool and mempool db logs to see if you can figure out the issue. A rough terminal command would be docker logs mempool_space_api and docker logs mempool_space_db. The main reason I prefer the BTC RPC Explorer over Mempool is because it does not use a db to cause issues haha. Let me know how you go.

First of all, thanks for your work! :-)

I found two minor issues that might be important for everyone:

1. In start.sh, I needed to change docker logs explorer > /dev/null to docker logs btc_explorer > /dev/null (line 410). Without this change, the script ended with an error.
2. The entire Bitcoin blockchain is located in the Bitcoin Docker container under the folder /root/.bitcoin (not in/data/.bitcoin). When restarting using stop.sh and start.sh, for example, you need to resync the entire blockchain. To avoid this, you should add an additional line in the docker-bitcoin.yml file (found under /compose):

volumes:
- "../volumes/bitcoin/node:/data/.bitcoin"
- "../volumes/bitcoin/chain:/root/.bitcoin" <-- additional line

I did not encounter this and I restarted everything many times

@Marfusios ok, maybe its only a problem on my machine - dont know. I working on a debian 12 machine - who knows?!

I changed all locations from /data/.bitcoin to /root/.bitcoin. (bitcoind, bitcoin_gui, electrs)
I also copied the .conf files to this folder and removed the old locations /data/.bitcoin
everything is 100% sync. right now (also electrs 🙂)

@axtism I cant seem to replicate this issue on my Fedora workbench. Everything appears to work fine for me too. It's possible that there were some permission issues with the default folders. The whole point of the repo is to give others an easy script to modify to their needs, so I am glad to see that it works somewhat as intended.
