Problem: Materials from previous offering of a course #5

Description

Description: Accessing course material from online LMS (backpack / google classroom) so that it's accessible even after the course is formally archived. Lets people plan ahead for their course using the material, forces course instructors to not repeat last year's tutorials / questions so that grading's fair for all.

Challenges:

  • Ethics get in the way. On one hand one may argue that this data is easily available through seniors already, and thus people who can't get their hands on it are at a comparative disadvantage, on the other hand one might argue that since these contents were meant to be archived by the instructor, they should not be accessed by anyone.
  • Course codes for private courses
  • Handling both google classroom and backpack

Potential Ideas:

  1. One way to go about this would be to use a browser level automation script (like greasemonkey or an extension, or simply pasting something into their console) and a volunteer runs it on their computer to prepare the archive for a particular course
  2. Another way: use a headless browser / selenium and a dummy account which joins all courses through donated course codes and archives them
  3. Yet another way: Let people download material themselves and share it. a-la CourseHero.
