Problem: Knowing where your friend is on the campus #4
Description
Description: People want to mutually share their approximate location in campus, if you're in campus, with someone. This could a problem because often you want to contact someone urgently and you don't know if they're in a class, a meeting or sleeping.
Challenges:
- Privacy is a big concern. It should be addressed by giving the user a lot of control.
- You should be able to control granularity of the location (precise gps point vs lecture hall vs building)
- You should be able to control who you're sharing with
- You should be able to turn off sharing guilt-free. For instance, if there's no difference between phone being turned off and explicitly turning off sharing then that's good, if your status indicator screams that you've explicitly turned off sharing then that's bad.
- Apart from what users of the app can and can't do, since location is sensitive data, the app itself must be secure. User data should be protected. You shouldn't be storing more than you have to at the server.
- Battery life is a big concern. If your app requires GPS to be turned on all the time, it may not be used.
Potential Ideas:
- @shwetankshrey wanted to make something resembling Marauder's Map
- Some people had the idea of using the WiFi access point to determine where you are in the campus.
