The regular expression in the preprocessing of bfcl.py generates huge list of call_references

via the step of the regular expression through the cartesian product of all the lists highlighted above (2^19).

Most of these lists look like artificially pumped up by appending '' to them. Perhaps this is the issue? should these (what seems to be artificial) ''-s be cleaned out?
