Splash Screen

The Splash Screen is intended for display during the application loading in a dual purpose: presenting the application itself and giving the user a feeling that something is happening (the application being loaded) launching. So usually, splash screens use to be large representations of the application concepts. We have chosen a famous painting from GiovanniBellini, ContinenceOfScipio, representing the episode depicted, narrated by Livy and Valerius Maximus, tells of how after the taking of Carthage in 209 BC Scipio had treated with respect a beautiful virgin, one of the hostages who had been consigned to him, and had sent her back to her intended husband and parents with the sole recommendation that her suitor strived for peace between Rome and Carthage.

<img width="400" alt="Scipion_splash_white.jpg" src="/twiki/pub/TWiki/ArtWork/Scipion_splash_white.jpg" height="150" />

  • The image file is freely available from the wikimedia with enough resolution for this purpose. The original image was grey-scale filtered and applied a rounded-corners canvas.

  • The name of the application, coinciding with the main character in the painting, SCIPION is half overlapped in the right bottom corner. For giving a classic style, the font used is Times New Roman.

  • The author is honored in the upper left corner with a small legend: "Continence of Scipio - Giovanni Bellini"
