Extracting a diagram/figure from a pdf

Hi,

I'm currently extracting and replacing images in my pdf documents (it works :)) and i wanted to know if it possible to do the same thing with a figure.

For example, a diagram created in a word document that is exported as a pdf ? It isn't considered as an image so I don't really know how to access the actual data of the figure to modify it.
