Future of this project?

Among the checkers I looked at, this one was the most flexible one, and I would surely like to see it supported.

Apparently, the original author no longer seems to maintain it. See this comment from a user: #100 (comment)
The state of the issues, pull requests and community comments also suggests that.

• Has anyone considered forking the repo?
• Has anyone contact to the original author, so that ownership of the existing repo could be transferred?
• Are there similar checkers that are as freely configurable as this one and that don't impose unwanted checks?
• Any other ideas on the future of this project?
