Just the legend or the content of the style drawer? How should this work with multiple legends will they be drawn in the same dialog or multiple overlapping dialogs? Should the dialog be modifiable [size, position, collapsible]? |

I guess we start with the drawer/layer view anyway. |

I can see this as an option to display a drawer element in a dialog which if closed becomes a drawer again with the display linked to the layer display. Having multiple dialogs will still look busy though. More elements will always take up screen property. For example you have a layer title in the layer control. If you have a seperate filter control with the layer title, and a seperate style/legend with the layer title. Then you have layer title three times on screen which takes space. |

At the moment it takes some clicks in the layer panel to expand legend.
Sometimes it might be desirable to see it automatically when the layer is visible.
This also raises the question of design - where the legend should be as currently in the side panel it takes up space which could be organised into a layer toolbar context.
Legends are among those elements which may not be needed to be viewed at all times.
They are requested and closed when not used so the access needs to be easy (user interaction context).
They are crucial to map readability (map context).
Possible improvements - making legends interactive modals or overlays on the map.
Example of a legend overlaid on the map with a toggle button:
