Freetube seems to ignore the proxy configuration when opening videos #7137
-
I'm running FreeTube 0.23.3 on macOS Sonoma 14.7.4. Since I'm using a VPN (WireGuard macOS app) most of the time, and to avoid the "[UNPLAYABLE] Video unavailable" error, I installed SquidMan to set up a proxy server on my local machine that bypasses the VPN network interface (tcp_outgoing_address 192.168.xx.xx where 192.168.xx.xx is the en0 interface IP address). This configuration works fine on Firefox and Chrome: if these browsers are set up to connect through the localhost proxy server, my public IP address is the one provided by my ISP, if they're not set up to use the proxy server, the public IP address is the one provided by the VPN service. Despite this, FreeTube seems to ignore the proxy server. Under Settings > Proxy, if I set up my proxy server and click "Test Proxy", I get my ISP IP address (it's not using the VPN service). But when I try to watch any video (I tested a few) I keep getting the "[UNPLAYABLE] Video unavailable". If I deactivate the VPN connection the video starts playing after I refresh FreeTube. It is possible that the proxy server might not be 100% well configured. But I find it weird that the browsers I tested seem to work fine with my current setup, while FreeTube seems to ignore the proxy server when trying to watch a video (although it provides the correct IP when testing the proxy. This feels like a bug and it would mean creating a new issue, but before raising this as a bug, I just wanted to confirm if there is something else that I'd would need to do to prevent FreeTube from ignoring the proxy server configuration and, instead use the available VPN connection regardless of the proxy configuration. |
