Sync groups over CardDAV with Thunderbird categories?

Is it possible to sync groups over CardDAV with Thunderbird categories?

When adding your Nextcloud account in DAVx⁵, you are supposed to choose "Groups are per-contact CATEGORIES" as per https://www.davx5.com/faq/cant-manage-groups-on-device.

That should help synchronize contact groups properly but I'm not sure if it'll work out-of-the-box with Thunderbird CategoryManager.
