This is do to how Sonoma handles the rendering. I am not aware of a way to fix that.

@logicsec @grapefizz I just went down this rabbit hole because of this thread, you need to fully disable SIP and edit some macOS asset files, I did a writeup here: https://github.com/ZimengXiong/osx-square-window-corners/ and just posted my setup at the bottom of this discussion. AFAIK editing the asset files are the only way to have semi-consistent styling across the OS rather than relying on per app support. It is rather finicky and I wish apple had a toggle for this.

I remember having an issue with Space Highlighting as well a while back. Don't forget to update your bar at the bottom or it won't highlight until you've switched spaces, if that doesn't work you can look at my sketchybarrc in my Dots repo to see if there's something missing maybe.

Thank you for the kind words! I spent most of this weekend taking a break from porting plugins and working on cleaning up my code. I also lack any kind of artistic ability so I just looked up some polybar themes and colored them with the basic nord colors. I use rofi/polybar/bspwm on linux and I’m just so happy I can get a similar set up on macOS with alfred/sketchybar/yabai!

Sketchybar is significantly more powerful than I had assumed at first glance, I’m definitely going to spend some more time writing plugins and making the bar more responsive to mouse events in the near future!

My sketchybar setup is managed globally via nix-darwin.

Step:

1. Install required fonts (via brew):

• sketchybar-app-font
• SF Pro
• SF Symbols

2. Handle icon_map.sh:

• My setup uses nix, so ~/.config/sketchybar/cache/icon_map.sh is actually a symlink pointing to /nix/store/....
• If you’re not using nix, just remove that symlink and rename the included icon_maps.sh file to icon_map.sh inside the cache/ folder.

3. Edit sketchybarrc:

• Added a new applet to uniformly monitor the number of message notifications of all chat software.
• Go to line 86 in ~/.config/sketchybar/sketchybarrc and add the names of the chat apps you want to monitor (e.g. Wechat, Discord, etc.).

Edit: I am referring to the Maple Mono Font. Also, just an edit to the Setup instructions, also install font-maple-mono-nf-cn using brew if directly using this config. some icons (in the network.sh file), depend on this font.

Utility status bar - Rosé-Pine Moon

This isn't much, I took a lot of inspiration among different configs (mainly FelixKratz's old one - since I loved the design) and modified / tweaked / added some functionalities. I faced a lot of troubles getting some to work... the main challenge was : to get the music player working on macOS 15.4+ (thx apple 🥰). But succeeded by using Media-Control. I also found some workaround for other things like WiFi. (Check in config)
As much as I liked the native menu bar I gotta admit I prefer making my own ^^. My only concern was about functionality... but I managed to add by right-clicking logo to show the native menu items - and it's working ! 🥳 (here again - thx to felixkratz who made a basic little tool to list menus - and perform a click action from cli)

Anyway after all that talk, here’s the demo on a notched screen

About the original config, If you really want to implement it, the code is available in my Nix-Darwin dotfiles (raw config here). My main concern is about the scripts not being in a separated file (for nix integration reasons).

Had really cool time with configuring bar during last couple evenings ❤️‍🔥!
My home machines are arch linux based systems, and there I have many bar configs (xmobar, polybar, waybar etc, yes I have tried maybe most of all popular linux tiling wm 😁), and my main goal was to replicate my currently using Waybar style config (that I'm very used to during last time) on SketchyBar on my MacOS Pro M1 working machine (with 2 external monitors). Result is over all my starting expectation!

I don't like any charts or similar distracting things on my bar (aggressive highlight), because of it, all elements informative, but as simple as possible, no aggressive colors etc, on as less space (height) as possible.

tools: aerospace + sketchybar (also: karabiner elements, MPD, custom scratchpad implementation etc)

Most of the elements is clickable, like clicking on CPU, RAM elements will open iTerm with launched btop, open weather on weather item, mute/unmute and changing level of volume in mic/out, run macos setting with mouse click on system elements to configure: wifi, network, sound, mic and so on.
All scratchpads and float TUI apps started from bar perfectly sized and centered by osascript.

now_playing was taken from some guy configs, that had given me ideas of how to write my personal config with more related to MPD support (mouse scroll to to volume control, click to play/pause, ctrl left/rigth click to next/prev song etc), also with support of karabiner hotkeys to control MPD and reflect status in bar item instantly. And also with basic support of spotify and apple music (that I'm also using).

I figured out that in my case, reloading all ws items after focus new ws, is little slow to all workspace elements, and I decided to use next config instead (where we are reloading only focused and prev ws, only 2 items, instead all declared (usually 9 or more)):

where I'm triggering to reload only focused and prev workspace item, it helps to sketchybar ws items works much, much faster (in my case on M1 Pro with 9 workspaces in total ~ 3-4 times faster), as we reloading only 2 sub-items, instead of all declared workspace items on every ws focus.
