Yeah, DrZhark has implemented very delicate mechanics of handling eggs. We can definitely think about an opt-in config to simplify this if so desired. |

So, after playing for a while, I found out that eggs usually won't hatch or can be placed down but will get "returned" back to the player's inventory (the eggs are also lost if you place them without shifting before right-clicking), I have no idea if it is a mod conflict or a bug from the mod itself.
I decided to see if the config had a separate option for hatching in the usual way chicken eggs are hatched (thrown like snow balls) as this would eliminate the requirement to stand near the egg entity that is spawned by using an egg (or the egg gets refunded after a while). But the mod doesn't have such option.
My suggestion is for a config option to just throw the eggs (the ones you get from mobs, not the spawn eggs) to spawn the tamed version of the entity. Thus bypassing any possible "refunding" issue (if it is present for some unknown reason?) that can arise from playing with different mods.
Edit: After more careful experimentation, I found out that you just need to give it enough space and get away from it so the egg will hatch. My point about throwing eggs as a config option still stands though.
