How to get unread channel messages on Pidgin start?

Currently new direct messages arrive once I turn on Pidgin.
But messages in channels which I have added (with persistent and auto join options enabled) doesn't arrive when I start Pidgin. Is there any known technical problem or is it a bug?

I was wondering the same; is this a limitation of this plugin or of Pidgin maybe? I'm new to this, but I'm assuming for now that Pidgin is only listening for new chat messages coming in while being online, and that chat messages sent by others while I was offline simply are lost. Would be nice if someone could confirm this, as this doesn't seem to be mentioned explicitly anywhere
