Site sync - Password enter multiple times

I am currently in the process of moving all my sites that i have hosted on an old server to a new server. i am running the site sync command on the new server and when i do this i have to enter the password for the remote server several times. is that normal or am i missing something?

command example:
ee site sync root@oldserverip:sitename sitename

this command works but i have to enter the password multiple times (5-7). i would think that i should only need to do it once per command.
