Code spans?

I'd like to make in-line code snippets as shown on this page:
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/code

However, with the current state of the BigBag every <code> tag leads to a code block! Is there a good way of making the "single-backtick code" spans from Markup instead of just the "triple-backtick" ones?
