Try changing that line of code to:

atlantic_hurricanes6 <- mutate(atlantic_hurricanes5, Wind.speed.kmh = as.numeric(str_extract(Wind.speed.kmh,pattern = "[:digit:]+")))

And the same for Wind.speed.mph.

This dataset is a little messy, but that's okay! I think you can get meaningful information out of it. We can talk more about how to transform those data to get it looking how you want.
