Reimagining the Charm of Live Tiles for .NET MAUI

When Microsoft released the Windows Phone, I was captivated. Those Live Tiles weren’t just innovative; they were ahead of their time—a dynamic blend of functionality and aesthetic that truly brought your home screen to life. Sadly, while the phone itself couldn’t find its footing in the market, the brilliance of the Live Tile concept has remained etched in my memory.

That’s why I’m on a mission to bring the magic of Live Tiles back, this time for .NET MAUI. My vision is to create a highly customizable Live Tile control that lets you:

Adjust transparency effortlessly—because personality shines through subtlety.

Choose your own colors and icons to make the tile uniquely yours.

Position and style the text exactly how you like it, giving you complete creative freedom.

Control the refresh rate, ensuring it stays relevant and dynamic for your needs.

For those who, like me, still hold a soft spot for the Windows Phone days—yes, I still own one! —this project is a love letter to a piece of tech innovation that deserves a second wind.

I think you could achieve this with everything that is already there and available. If it were me, I would use the AvatarView (I'm bias, as I wrote it) within a grid, and use it like in the samples app where I did a page for "Day of the Week" in combination with the "Image" page (for notification count), and have a layout similar to "keyboard" page.

As such, I don't think there is a need to implement anything specifically and niche within the Toolkit.
