So you’ve been developing, and you keep seeing a best practice for every little thing you do. How do you find out about these, and how do you make sure you implement them.

Well short answer, you don’t. Just ignore them.

Of course, it’s not as simple as that, but let me explain. What you should follow, and what you shouldn’t is usually not very obvious and here I’ll try to make it a bit more obvious to you.

Unit tests? Optimizations? Fewer lines of code? All in the trash*

*massive grain of salt, obviously, but just hear me out!

My name is Rene Pot from the Netherlands, I’ve been a professional developer for about 13 years already. My first focus was PHP, but for about 10 years now I’ve focussed mostly on JavaScript.
