Estimations are something you encounter in every job, with every task, but saying how much time you’re going to spend on a task can set it in stone.
In this talk, I’ll be telling you
How to handle estimations
How to make sure you don’t get stuck with them
How to talk to your superior about changes in estimations and deadlines
And most importantly, giving yourself enough time to make sure you can handle it. Not only does it matter to the company when you deliver, but it also matters if you are able to survive the deadline and to continue working after. Because what good is it if you deliver on time, but then get burned out?
In the past, I’ve been “burned” by poor strategy surrounding deadlines and estimations, and would like to help you out preventing these issues.
Key takeaways
How do you determine how long a task will take?
How do you determine deadlines?
How do you talk with your boss about changes?
Setting clear expectations for yourself and those who depend on you
Speaker
My name is Rene Pot from the Netherlands, I’ve been a professional developer for about 13 years already. My first focus was PHP, but for about 10 years now I’ve focussed mostly on JavaScript.
My current position is as a Developer Advocate at Ombori, where I focus on helping developers out using our tooling around IoT, where we focus on digital experiences in Physical Spaces. Some solutions we have are digital signage and (virtual) queueing, but we provide the tools to build your own solutions as well.
