Is this working at all ???

Hi there,

I am sorry for the slightly provocative question, but I have been struggling (or going thru hell) for quite a number of weeks now trying to get a complete automation working for adding hosts to a distributed environment with the CRE edition.

What is working:

• setting up checkmk servers
• installing agents on hosts and registering them
• adding these hosts to checkmk, even in a distributed environment

What is NOT working:

• doing a service discovery from the agent role with checkmk_agent_discover = true.
• doing a service discovery with the module "checkmk.general.discovery" in a task. This is only working with a workaround in the code (Linux.yml, see separate issue I opened). It is sometimes working for some hosts, sometimes the task runs into timeouts, sometimes it doesnt seem to do do anything, sometimes running the playbook a second time helps
• doing activate-changes. This sometimes activates some changes, sometimes none and sometimes all

I have the impression that service discovery is running very slowly in the background and the task is not waiting for it to finish (long enough) so that the result of activate changes depends randomly on how far the process has made it.

Could it be that service discovery is not working in a distributed environment ? Or maybe it is not working with the raw addition ? Or both ?

I just dont want to put more effort into debugging and trying to find my own errors when it is clear that the parts of the code I am using have never been working and will not work for a while.

It would be very helpful to know where the real issues with this ansible collections are at the moment because I could also decide where I could contribute to the project.

We are not monitoring discussions as closely as the issues, as this is more a place for announcements and less important discussions.

I can assure you that all functionality included in the collection works reasonably well. So if you still experience issues, I want to ask you to open an issue with all the necessary information, so we can look at the situation. Thanks!
