Installing A/UX 3.0.1 on BlueSCSI on a Quadra 610

Hello. I've got several BlueSCSI v.2 devices on my viintage Macs. I recently acquired a Quadra 610 and decided it would be fun to install A/UX on it. I'm following the guide at this page. The CD image was burned to a CD from AUX_3.0.1_Install.toast_image.bz2_.zip on MacintoshRepository.org, and the boot floppy was from the same source.

The boot floppy and cd worked well and booted the system nicely. However, when I tried to partition the drive image on the BlueSCSI I began getting write errors. I haven't seen that before. These appeared on the screen as the system tried to set up the drive

What strikes me are two warnings. The first says "---- WARNING: file /HD0 Mac SSD CC.hda is fragmented, see https://github.com/BlueSCSI/BlueSCSI-v2/wiki/Image-File-Fragmentation", and the second says "WARNING: Host used command 0x1A which is affected by drive geometry. Current settings are 63 sectors x 255 heads = 16065 but image size of 1925120 sectors is not divisible. This can cause error messages in diagnostics tools."

Does anyone have an idea what's been happening here?

As always you should start with the Trouble Shooting guide first - which will have you updating to the latest firmware, low level format with SD Card formatter, (which will address your SDIO errors in the log) among other things. Then we can have a good base to start trouble shooting if you are still having an issue.

The fragmentation warning has a link discussing what it is and how to try to avoid, it does not cause issues, only performance implications.

After you get through all steps in the guide and if you are still having an issue please post a debug log.

I updated to the latest firmware, which seems to have done the trick. I did get one read error on setting up the A/UX disk, but no write errors.

Great! If you get more read errors I'd strongly suggest doing that full overwrite format with SD Card Formatter - it does a low level sector reconfigure on the SD card. If you still have an error try swapping the SD card out. If it's just an occasional read error from the SD card that works on the next try you could live with that too :)
