BlueScsi not working on powerbook 520.

I have the v2 2024.01a with the firmware 2024.12.08-rel Dec 8 2024 22:19:03.

When i plug in the bluescsi in with a hdi30 to db25 cable it shows a question mark and doesn't boot as well as nothing lights up. if i unplug the bluescsi it does the same thing but i thought the bluescsi had active termination so it shouldn't matter if the cable has it or not from my knowledge. The cable i have doesn't seem to have any termination when i opened the db25 end.

A few things

• The title says "now" do you mean "not"?
• PowerBooks do not provide termination power on the external port. You will need to supply power via USB if using the external port.
• Your SD card is class 2, which is extremely old and slow
• You have 1 image, the bootstrap image, which contains no operating system, so I would not expect it to boot. You should choose an image with a pre-installed OS in addition to the bootstrap image.

You can try any of the installers here - just name them CD3 whatever.iso https://github.com/BlueSCSI/BlueSCSI-v2/wiki/BlueSCSI-Images#mac-os-cd-installers - we don't have preinstalled images for every system.

That log only shows one busy signal seen - please make sure you're connections are secure and have good fitment. The BlueSCSI isn't detecting any SCSI requests so is not doing anything.

I have the new image on the computer it still shows the question mark and all of the connections look good. Now it shows more in the error log

Thanks for this, it shows the issue. Dataline D2 is stuck somewhere in the chain - could be on the BlueSCSI, the cable, the connector, or even the SCSI chip. It's always 1 so that's why you are getting odd errors. You'll have to take a deeper inspection of the entire SCSI chain to see where the problem lies. If you have parts to swap out to isolate sections of the chain (eg another scsi device, scsi cable, or computer) it can make the process easier.

The bluescsi v2 i have works with other computers without the scsi cable. I tried it in another powerbook and it still doesnt work so i assume its the cable.

Glad you got it narrowed down! I might try some contact cleaner or IPA and a tooth brush on the cable's pins to see if you can clean up anything. Please let us know if you need any other help. 30+ year old parts/computers defiantly have "fun" issues to find and fix :)
