BlackArch stuff hasn't been updated since 2023

The ISO since 2023.04.01 has never been updated. The repo is also mostly not updated and not much activity. Is the project still on

I don't know, I'm not in charge of ISO release. I'm a package maintainer. Other people of the team have not communicated a date yet. We're few and all very busy. Maybe ask on the matrix public channel.

I have muscled through the Blackarch slim ISO install on tVMware, QEMU and a bare metal install on a Macbook Pro 2017 using /strap.sh.
These were done earlier in 2025. However i am playing hell this week doing a new install on the two VMs. (earlier installs were lost).
jdk-openjdk - jre-openjdk - jre-opendjk-headless and the other dozens of ruby, python, perl package and dependency conflicts running -Syu.

I will power through.
However I am curious. If the installs are exclusive to the ISOs and strap.sh...
is this repo intended to be used pre or post install?

If you install ArchLinux, then install BlackArch repositories on top of it, you won't have much trouble.

However if you use BlarchArch ISOs to install a new machine, you'll encounter toubles right now. Because the BA ISOs are outdated (2 years) you'll have to deal with a lot of upgrade issues, as if you used a 2 years old AL ISO. If you still want to do that, consult https://archlinux.org/news/. For example you issues with openjdk are not related to BA but https://archlinux.org/news/incoming-changes-in-jdk-jre-21-packages-may-require-manual-intervention/.
