Step 7 of the readme says "Run BOINC client ... and verify that WSL and podman are detected."
These instructions should be expanded to explain how to verify this, since the client window did not have any obvious-to-me indication that WSL and podman were detected.
I did notice that the "Please install Docker" notice disappeared, but that wouldn't be apparent to people using the simple view, unless they frequently click the Notices button.
