I had a rust implementation. But didn't had much time to make it to a product.

Probably bring some code from there if i was able to find the codebase.

BTW, what should we call ExtenScript in short? It's often misunderstood in it's abbr as EcmaScript where the EcmaScript based ast trees and tools are build around that name. For Example: estree, esast, esprima, espree, estraverse

"XS" could work as the short form of ExtendScript.

The approach i took was, first wrote an es-ast like ast for extendscript, a ast builder api, and a to_json and to_js serializer. Then wrote a parser for the jsxbin and which returns the ast which we can then use to manipulate and such for further processing.

That's the thing I was wondering. I've never written an AST in Rust before, so I was really curious if there was a good way to go about it. What do you think of the approach I am currently taking for it? I kind of drew inspiration from the astral-sh/ruff python AST.

Ruff is good. But since it's more of a JavaScript like language it easy for us to use tools that operates on es-ast with minor patches.
But we can get inspiration of the implementation style from ruff and such tools.

There are more es parser in rust already. we can extend from the es-ast, trim it to the ES3 like JS that ExtendScript supports and add the extra xml nodes.

If we align our tool's data formats close to theirs we can use their tools to process our serialized formats further (with patches if needed).

Also, XS sounds cools. But, is thery anything out there with the same name and relevant?

That's true! It would also probably allow us to emit formatted JavaScript.

Yep. Implement the ast in a separate crate and in the decompiler we can impl a trait or smth like that to deserialize/decompile.
