SD card is full, and can’t find where to delete files from

Hi,
I have had my AllSky running for a while and it keeps 2 weeks of Timelapse videos on, and this has worked fine for 18 months, but now the SD card is full and dont know why, have emptied the TMP folder in AllSky but still no better…
Where has all the space gone…??

I'd recommend going for an SSD instead of a SD. Several reasons: capacity, speed and reliability.

Yea, there are a few folders in there, but they are just the 6 latest nights of images, it normally saves 14 lots and still loads of room, and is not a problem so it’s not that…it’s something else that is taking all the space….I have deleted all but 6 of the nights saved, and it freed up very little space…

The du command will tell you the Disk Usage of the specified directories. Run man du to see how to use it. I suggest running it on all the allsky/images folders then on ~/allskt itself.
If you have the Allsky Website installed also run it on /var/www/html/allsky.

Ok, thanks all sorted now and back to having all the free space, it was the AllSky/TMP directory that was full 👍🏻

@Olly1965 What was in allsky/tmp? A bunch of .jpg files? If so, were they recent files or old files. We fixed a bug many months ago that woulld leave .jpg files in that directory.

Yes, but I have no idea how to update, I had issues getting it all to work at the start, so do t want to update in case it screws it all up, as the update procedure on this is not just an update button, it’s a complete, take my camera apart remove the SD card and re flash it all, that’s too much trouble, I just hope in the future there is a proper update button for it all…I will just have to empty that folder every few months…

@Olly1965 Are you running an old version of Allsky, possibly one with the bug that leaves .jpg files in allsky/tmp?
What do you mean by "take my camera apart remove the SD card and reflash it all"? Allsky doesn't require that for an upgrade.
The next version of Allsky has a significantly better installer, so upgrading from a prior release is much easier.
A future release will have an "upgrade.sh" script that will be allow "one button" upgrades.

So how do I update it over the internet, without having to take the camera down and do it all manually…???

@Olly1965 I assume "take the camera down" mean take it down from a pole or something similar? That doesn't need to be done since you are only upgrading software on the Pi. My observatory allsky camera is 22 hours away and I upgrade the software over the Internet.

You have a couple choices:

1. Upgrade now. About half-way down this page are instructions for Updating the software. If you select this option you'll want upgrade to the new release when it's available.
2. Wait for the new release and upgrade then. This new release simplifies upgrading. The release should be out in a month or two.
