Plasma: Initial issues

Please post any initial issues with Plasma session/SDDM here and I'll fix them as I can.

Instructions for installing Plasma:

sudo moss ur
sudo moss it pkgset-aeryn-plasma-recommended branding-aeryn-plasma

Instructions for switching to SDDM:

sudo moss ur
sudo moss rm gdm
sudo moss it sddm

Instructions for switching to plasma-login-manager (NOTE: Very experimental and not supported):

sudo moss ur
sudo moss rm gdm
sudo moss it plasma-login-manager

When the PC starts up and the user logs in, the Wi-Fi does not connect automatically, even though it did before. There is no need to re-enter the Wi-Fi key; you just need to manually tell Plasma to connect to the Wi-Fi after logging in.

And this doesn't happen in gnome? What about when using sddm?

OK, I just checked kwallet in my VM with both SDDM and PLM and it looks fine to me. It unlocks properly after logging in, indicating that pam_kwallet is working. I wasn't able to check that wifi password saving was working but I did confirm on a different machine that kwallet is indeed what is used for storing the wifi password so at the very least that narrows down what could be wrong here.

You haven't done anything like change your password with passwd or enabling autologin (which doesn't work with PLM currently)?

Oh if you're on volatile I did add kwalletmanager so it should be easy to tell if the wallet is working or not.

I've encountered issues with images causing crashes, primarily in kioworker, but also in baloo_filemetadata_temp_extractor and baloo_file_extractor. Opening Settings > Backgrounds also causes kioworker to crash repeatedly, resulting in a crash loop. Additionally, thumbnailing in Dolphin (when a .jpeg is in the open view) also leads to crashes in kioworker. Same as trying to open the .jpeg in gwenview.

Update: The update exiv2 (0.28.6 -> 0.28.7) fixed the issue :)

the Users section of Plasma Settings is blank, doesn't show the user created during AerynOS install.

The xdg-user-dirs package isn't installed by default in a lichen installed plasma environment, so the user directory only contains the workspace folder. When installing a package like steam that has xdg-user-dirs as a dependency, restarting the system causes all the user folders to be created. However, these folders are not pinned to the sidebar of dolphin.

Edit 1: plasma-desktop has "binary(xdg-user-dir)" as dependency, but It is not installed in the fresh plasma system.

Fixed by bf8652d. It was added as a builddep but not a rundep.
