A little background: We created a project proposal at the University of Copenhagen regarding digitalization of scanned geological log curves. Two students signed up for the project and they succesfully defended their bachelor project this summer.
One of the students wanted to continue his work at our company, building upon their findings to create a commercial product.
In their report they concluded that root-painter was effective in isolating data curves from the gridlines and annotations in the logs. They found that in combination with more traditional methods, root-painter would be very useful in digitizing log curves.
To the question: If the root-painter is installed seperately and called from our software to do a prediction on a pre-trained model, would this in your oppinion be in compliance with GPLv3? It is our belief that this is the case but there is limited court precedent on GPLv3.
Should the author(s) view this use as non-compliant, we will seek alternative approaches.
best regards,
Anders
