Install the annotation library like a proper library

Can the default behaviour of the annotate library installation be to install it like a normal library, ideally using GNUInstallDirs?

Dumping the contents into a single directory make be easier for people writing a single application, but for users that have a proper build system (buildroot, yocto, etc) this complicates the packaging.
