• I am really happy to work on this project, something I have been wanting to contribute towards for a while.
• Ideally these features and fixes will be implemented in the upstream one day but I also can now see how much freedom there is to experiment and learn and provide my own skills and vision to the project without restrictions.
• I am open to collaboration if anyone wants to make a PR to work together on developing features.
• I have learned so much about Open source, pypi, github actions, Pipenv and project security just in the few weeks of maintaining the project and appreciate the opportunity for learning
• I acknowledge the trust placed in the code from this repository for those that choose to make the switch and rest assured that I take security and code quality fairly seriously as a result.

Recap:

With the release of v.0.6.3, we have achieved a few milestones in security, features, bug fixes and other areas.

Security:

• Resolved 25 dependency security issues (2 Critical, 11 High, 10 Moderate, 2 Low)
• Resolved 3 security issues identified within the previous code

Features

• when feeding a path into save_to_json(), the path and file will be created if not existing.
• st.chat_input() is now detected and you can see how people are chatting with your app. This needs some extra work to really reap the benefits of the widget.

Bugs:

• Major code cleanup
• introduction of CI/CD code quality checks via github actions
• fixed query parameters issues raised when using st.experimental_get_query_params (deprecated in 1.30)

Other

• imported all previous upstream issues into new project, verifying every one whether still relevant and starting to address issues raised
• bumped minimum required python version to 3.9 and locking streamlit 1.31 as needed owing to new features released (st.page_link) that will become very important going forward

Going Forward:

• Before April 2024, Streamlit will release a version for introducing html into the pages, allowing us to introduce Google Analytics and other analytic engines to streamlit. This will be a breaking change and once developed, we will be releasing version 1.0.0 and a series of other quality of life features revolving around safety, privacy and ease of use. This will be a major breaking change and it is from version 1.0.0 that we will provide ongoing support.
• I am still familiarizing myself with every nook and cranny of the current codebase and will likely restructure and provide new features once we hit the limits to growth. I can already see a need to develop a settings screen within streamlit_analytics2 that allows consistent configuration with a config.yml/json to maintain persistence.
